Philip Warnes of Hospital Radio Exeter, scooped Gold at this year's National Hospital Radio Awards.
Philip has been making lockdown programmes from his home studio in Totnes ever since members of Hospital Radio Exeter were not allowed to go into the studios at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) because of Covid over a year ago.
At the recent Hospital Broadcasting Association National Awards Phillip picked up a Gold Award for Best Specialist Music Programme sponsored by PPL.
The programme was a Halloween Special and the criteria for the award is designed to demonstrate the presenter's expert knowledge of the music in question. Evidence of energy and passion for the genre should be evident to the listener.
The Judges said... "A really clever intro that caught my attention from the word go, is how one judge summed up our Gold Winner. A well thought out show, with so much attention to detail and delivered perfectly. The judges agreed there was nothing not to like about this entry and it had their attention, throughout. A fantastic entry of what sounded like a fantastic show."
Gill Bassett, Hospital Radio Exeter Programme controller, said:
'During the pandemic Phil has produced copious amounts of programmes from home. His Halloween Special is a well-presented show featuring articles and associated music. Phil has energy and passion for recording and an expert knowledge of all genres of music. His contribution during the pandemic has been second to none.'
After winning the award, Phil commented:
"So thrilled to win this award! Being able to make programs through this difficult lockdown period has been a real blessing and being a baker by profession, I might say that winning the medal has been the icing on the cake!
