Patients in Newcastle and Gateshead hospitals are receiving some of the best entertainment in the country after ward broadcasting service Radio Tyneside was recognised as Station of the Year at a national ceremony.

Bridgend's Hospital Radio Ward Sing-a-long

The new and exciting Bridgend's Hospital Radio station have been out and about within the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend. 
 
Long term volunteers Sheila Hollin and Haydn Powell took their radio show to Ward 18 on Wednesday 12th of April entertaining and singing along with both patients and staff.
Bridgend's Hospital Radio is changing with the team growing to over 15 volunteers over the past few months.
 

HBS' ‘Weegie Wednesday’

Glasgow’s Hospital Broadcasting Service (HBS) has been recording occasional short-stories and plays for many years, but last year, a conversation in one of the city’s coffee shops between Programme Director Peggy Mack and local writer Jerry Brannigan set in motion what became known as the ‘Weegie Wednesday Short Story Competition’.

Descending Funds

A  popular presenter at Hospital Radio Ipswich will be bravely abseiling from the top of the Heath Road maternity block to raise funds.

Lewis Old intends to raise hundreds of pounds for The Woolverstone Wing  in the Hospital which specialises in treatment of cancer patients.

His epic effort will take place on the 28th May when he will be attempting a safe descent between 10 and 11am.

35 Years for Dave Leonard at Hospital Radio Basingstoke

Hospital Radio Basingstoke's Dave Leonard was given his Long Service Award for 35 years by HBA President June Snowden at the station's AGM on 13 March.

June also presented the station's awards nomination certificates to various members of the station including Vernon Pearce who joined the meeting from his home in Spain via Skype.  Vernon's show Smooth Jazz is one of the nominations in the Best Specialist Music Programme category.

 

National Hospital Radio Awards - 2017 Winners

Congratulations to the winners of the National Hospital Radio Awards, which were announced at the Cloisters in Bolton as part of the HBA's annual conference.

New HBA Trustees Announced

The Hospital Broadcasting Association held it's Annual General Meeting at the Holiday Inn, Bolton, on Saturday 25 March.

The meeting, following its nomination process, elected Ian Pinnell of Radio Cherwell;and Darran Huish of Bath Hospital Radio;as Trustees.

The new Trustees join a team from hospital radio stations across the UK, helping to promote and support Hospital Broadcasting in the UK, and the volunteers and stations that form the Association from all walks of life.

AGM - Notice of Meeting

The HBA Annual General Meeting will be held at 2pm on Saturday 25th March 2017, at the Holiday Inn – Bolton Centre, 1 Higher Bridge Street , Bolton, BL1 2EW, during our National Conference.

Representatives of all members are welcome (and encouraged) to attend the meeting, even if not attending the conference. There is no charge to attend the AGM and the subsequent informal meeting. If no-one from your station is able to attend the meeting, you are encouraged to appoint a proxy – which can be the meeting’s chairman – to  vote on your station’s behalf.

Broadcast Radio are in the final stages of developing the brand new Myriad 5 Playout system.

Milton Keynes Hospital Radio Member, Bob Pring, Passes Away

Milton Keynes Hospital Radio is saddened to report the death of long time member Bob Pring, who passed away in late January.
 
Bob had been a member of MKHR for around 10 years, and for most of that time had been the anchor for the Saturday afternoon Sports show.  Bob also gave his time to fundraising events for the organisation, particularly busking with his Harmonica.
